Haven House Children’s Hospice are a charity caring for seriously ill children in North East London, West Essex and Hertfordshire
They provide expert care that helps extraordinary children enjoy life as children, rather than as patients, and as families, not just as carers. Haven House provides compassionate, physical, and practical care for seriously ill children and their families, whenever and wherever needed. They believe that every family should have a choice of where their child is supported, either at the hospice or at home. Haven House provides; day care, overnight stays, end of life care and bereavement support, as well as life enriching activities such as sensory play, music therapy, yoga and physiotherapy. They help families create happy memories and make the most of every moment.
How the KPL team work with Haven House?
Donna and her team provide assessments of children who have palliative and life limited care needs using a range of highly specialist assessments and clinical observation skills in relation to the child’s physical, sensory, cognitive, emotional and psychological wellbeing. Following an assessment the best treatment approach is selected and individual physiotherapy treatment is delivered based on a sound knowledge of evidence-based practice to manage symptoms, promote function, manage postural and specialist equipment needs, to enable participation in activities and experiences to promote optimal independence and quality of life. Aquatic physiotherapy (Hydrotherapy) is also provided when indicated; the warmth of the water along with the buoyancy offers many therapeutic benefits and movement opportunities.

It costs around £6 million a year to run the hospice. Last year Haven House cared for 401 babies, children and young people, providing, 25,180 hours of care, supporting 156 siblings, and 1,606 therapy sessions.
